This mysterious portrait, known only as Lady in a Fur Wrap, was gifted to the city of Glasgow in 1966. It is generally attributed to El Greco, though some doubt has been cast on his authorship. As to the sitter, there is only speculation, ranging from a member of the royal family to the artist’s mistress or daughter. In any case it shows a liveliness not common in portraits of the time (it is dated 1577–80), or in portraits in general actually.
